What to Wear to a Dinner Party

Hi ladies,
So it's the weekend and a great number of us may have something planned for the nights. It may be a night out in town with the crew or an intimate dinner with your partner, boyfriend or toaster or a Dinner party organised by someone who knows someone who knows you. Now you've scored the invitation and looking forward to having a great night. Are you unsure of what to wear?

Don't worry.  EasyLivingDose is here to give you a quick fix. The conventional outfit of choice is the Little Black Dress which is still  acceptable and applauded,  I might add. But in recent times, as widely advised by etiquette experts, the safest route to take is to know where you are going, time of day and what your hosts expects of you. In our Nigerian circles, where there are not many a themed parties,  the act of choosing the right outfit is always left to you to figure out.

Here are some pointers on what to wear to the right occasion.

Intimate/Romantic Dinner Little Black Dress

So your date or partner is taking you out to a fancy dinner, play,  concert or show somewhere in town. Your best bet is to go with the age long tradition of donning a little black dress.  I recommend throwing on a demure Jacket for effect.  It's a defense mechanism I have come to cherish because the organisers might just have the AC turned to the highest.  You save yourself the trouble of catching a cold or getting snuggled by someone you barely know especially if it's a new catch. On the other hand, you can always toss it over the chair if it gets too hot.

Banquet dinner

This is the time let your stars shine. Every woman should own at least a pair of fancy evening gown for the more classier affairs. Make sure to add some glitz and glamour to the details of the dress. ie. Make it a sequin number for extra pizazz.

Charity / Benefit Dinner

Let's assume you are involved  with or get invited to many aocial events to promote humanity or raise funds for organisations.  Keep in mind the reason behind the event while you dress up. You want to appear selfless so choosing a business casual outfit would work best as you do not want to be the centre of attention.

Business Dinner

So your job requires occasional late meetings that run into the night. The key thing to remember is that while it is an informal setting, it is still work. Now is not the time to go for glitz.  Forget the catwoman costume that's not seen the day since last year's Halloween party. Wear outfits that can transcend from day into night and that you are super comfortable in.

NB:
What's more important than the clothes you wear is how you carry yourself. Exude confidence everywhere you go and see little that will stand in your way to fabulosity.

Catch up soon,
Xoxo
