10 must-have items to survive the rainy season in style!

Hello all,

Happy Sunday everyone. Dare I say happy when it has been raining cats? Indeed, the rains are upon us. It is inevitable and respects no one's time and schedule.  It's just got to do its thing whether we like it or not.  So instead of complaining about what we cannot control,  we can get ourselves equipped to deal with the ever changing weather and subsequent downpour.

Here are 10 essential survival kits for the rainy season.

1. Umbrella
I used to find it extremely uneasy to carry an umbrella around especially those large ones.  Because for me,  I saw it as a huge discomfort and something I'll lose along the way. How do I carry an umbrella around when am dressed to the nines? Well sometimes,  common sense outweighs comfort so umbrella it is.

Thankfully,  there are different patterns, designs and sizes for everyone.  Umbrellas can even be use to protect ones skin from harsh rays of the sun. Women can toss one into their larger-than-life bags and go about their day's work. And if a little discomfort keeps the cold away. Then why not?

2. Rain Boots to boot!
For those of us who have to swim across rivers before we can go into our houses now is the time to invest in a rubber boot.  I particularly love these designs.

3. Sweater
Yes! Sweaters do not have to be boring and you don't have to look like you've just caught the flu while you are wearing one. Toss a belt, hat or boot to give it a savvy edge. I highly recommend owning a few pairs for the colder months. And who knows you might just find yourself in Russia one morning! Never say never.

4.  Rain coat
As old fashioned as this sounds, it is still very handy for the heaviest of rains.

5. Menthol
Yes!  This contains numbing ingredients that fight against cold so even if you haven't caught a cold, it will be wise to have some handy. And what's more, menthol is also known to fight mouth odor. So pop that Vicks Baba Blue.

6. A cup of tea
Whenever I hear the word tea, the first thought that comes to my mind is 'that's so bloody British'. Well British aside, tea is known to have special healing and cleansing powers and keeping the body warm hence a necessity for this weather.

7. Cardigans
Just like the sweaters, the cardigan is a must-have for any cold weather . It is perfect for layering and a little more versatile than the sweater.

8. A bowl of soup
In China, soup heals all wounds. Literally.  There's special soups for  birthdays, funerals etc. Soup is the simplest thing to make for someone who already have a flu. You can also use it as a preventive measure.

9. Eat healthy meals and drink hot liquids
We can't overemphasise how important this nugget is. Maintaining a strong and healthy diet is the surest way of boosting ones immune system.  Eat right, stay fit and exercise.

10. Keep your environments clean.
Because it is the right thing to do. We all know that mosquitoes are drawn to water and dirt. For this reason,  make extra effort to keep your surroundings clean.  Sadly we are in a country where malaria parasite is till one of the highest killers. So let's kick against malaria every season.

Do you have anything else to add to this list that I may have missed out?  Please feel to leave it in the comment box.

Keep reading, keep living,
Xoxo
